This dataset is the result of a qualitative study exploring the impact on child care providers of recent changes in government policies such as the 2014 reauthorization of the Child Care Development Block Grant and the increasing number of state-funded pre-kindergarten programs. Although there is much research on the benefits of quality care for children, and some research on the struggles of parents seeking high quality care, few elicit the perspective of this crucial work force. Six focus groups were conducted with a total of 49 providers. Two groups each, one with center-based providers and one with home-based providers, were held in an urban, suburban, and rural location. Focus group data were supplemented with data from interviews with six rural providers, for a total study sample of 55. All interviews and focus groups were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using a constant comparative method and coding for emergent and sensitizing concepts

This dataset is the result of 6 focus groups of Maryland foster parents and their experiences with the court process. The groups were recruited from Baltimore City (2), Baltimore County (1), Montgomery County (1), Queen Anne’s County (1), and Allegany County (1) with a total of 45 participants. The guided discussions concentrated on the factors that either hindered or promoted foster parent involvement in the court process as well as suggestions for improvement. The dataset consists of verbatim transcripts of the group dialogs incorporating issues such as communication, accurate information, and the court environment/setting.

This qualitative inquiry investigated caregivers’ experiences with care management services for their child diagnosed with both cognitive and mental health needs. Study eligibility requirements included caring for a child 26 years of age or younger at enrollment, with an intellectual or cognitive developmental disability, and who also had a mental health condition. A total of 37 caregivers participated, 6 of whom were selected for in-depth interviews with the remaining 31 distributed among 5 focus groups. All sessions were recorded and subsequently transcribed verbatim. Data includes family demographics, child characteristics (e.g. school grade level, diagnoses, treatment, behavioral problems, etc.), and the factors promoting family engagement in care management

This study investigated a systematic process for using qualitative data to identify attributes and levels most important to caregivers in making health care treatment decisions. Grounded theory methodology was selected for its suitability in assessing an individual’s response to a specific experience. Stakeholder advisors worked with academic researchers in all phases of the project. A total of 48 caregivers were recruited from community support groups from across Maryland. Criteria for selection were a) responsibility for a child 26 years or younger, b) who had an intellectual, emotional, or social developmental disability and, c) with a concomitant mental health condition. 6 caregivers participated in in–depth interviews while the remaining 42 were distributed among 6 focus groups. This dataset includes family demographics, child characteristics (e.g. school grade level, diagnoses, treatment, behavioral problems, etc.), interview transcripts, focus group data, and attribute descriptions and levels.

This dataset was compiled from interviews and focus groups of 17 women currently or formerly engaged in street prostitution in Baltimore, Maryland. The participants were recruited from a drop-in center run by a nonprofit organization. The primary focus of the research was to identify factors from the respondents’ perspectives that would serve to enhance prostitution policy development. Discussions included issues of trauma and substance abuse, compassionate versus punitive treatment, the need for targeted services, and the Baltimore Specialized Prostitution Program. Additionally, study respondents were asked to use collages to provide visual representations to express their future hopes and aspirations. This dataset is comprised of demographic data, interview and focus group transcripts, and photographs of the collages.
